Energy Stick
Designed to provide a safe demonstration of the generation of heat by gas under compression. The piston moves inside a heavy-walled, transparent combustion cylinder, which provides an unobstructed view of the action inside the tube. Cotton at the bottom of the tube ignites in a flash as the plunger rapidly compresses the gas inside the tube.
This explosive demonstration is great for discussing adiabatic compression (rapid compression that raises air temperature) in diesel engines, Ideal Gas Laws and the laws of thermodynamics. Comes with cotton, two extra O-rings and a Teacher's Guide.
A guaranteed way to get your student's attention, or just for those of us who love to tinker with science!
Age: 12+ with adult supervision

How Does it Work?
When the plunger in the transparent cylinder is rapidly pushed down over a piece of cotton or paper towel, ignition occurs. This is one of the most impressive demonstrations of the heat produced when a gas is rapidly compressed - the principle of the Diesel engine ignition.
