Nautiloids are the earliest cephalopods found in the fossil record, an advanced class of mollusks which also includes ammonoids, belemnites and modern coleoids such as octopus and squid.

They appeared by the Late Cambrian, approximately 500 million years ago. Over two thousand species are known, but only a few survive to this day.

The earliest forms were orthoconic (having straight shells), but during the Ordovician the nautiloids experienced a rapid diversification and evolved a planispiral (coiled) shell shape.

These precious eggs have been polished to reveal a glossy shine.

Size, colouration, and pattern may vary as these are natural fossils.
