What mysterious force slows the magnet?
Equipped with two identical looking plugs, one made of a neutral metal and the other of a strong neodymium magnet, simply drop each plug through the copper tube and watch the stunning way each one falls.
Showcasing Lenzs Law and the occurrence of electric and magnetic forces. When the powerful magnet is dropped through the tube, eddy currents are generated which oppose the movement of the magnet, slowing its fall.
Constructed with a convenient viewing window and two end caps, you can turn the copper tube over, again and again to watch the surprising movement of each plug inside the tube.

How Does it Work?
Lenz Law Apparatus demonstrates the force of electromagnetic circuits by showing how a magnet behaves when passed through a copper tube. As the powerful neodymium magnet falls through the tube, a magnetic current is created within the tube, and slows the magnet's descent. Compared to the descent of the neutral, metal plug, which does not form a magnetic current within the tube and quickly falls through with gravity.
