When water moves up the spout, expect stormy conditions; when water moves down the spout, good weather is on its way!
Sure there are easier ways to predict a storm is brewing, but why not indulge the inner geek within you and allow the trusty weather barometer to measure surrounding atmospheric pressure and report to you its unique (and often frightfully accurate) weather report!
Seamen have been using this scientific weather instrument to predict oncoming storms since the mid 1600's. While the storm glass will not indicate exact barometric pressure in numerical values, it is still regarded as an accurate monitor of air pressure changes! Perfect for teaching the science behind predicting weather.

How does it work
This device predicts barometric weather changes by observing the rise and fall of liquid within a sealed glass sphere. When water moves up the spout, expect stormy conditions; when water moves down the spout, good weather is on its way. This hand blown glass bulb contains trapped air that expands and contracts with changes in atmospheric pressure.
