How does it work?
There are two liquids in these lamps that are very close in density and insoluble in one another. Switch the lamp on and the light bulb heats the mixture. The heavier liquid absorbs the heat, and as it heats up, it expands. As it expands it becomes less dense, gracefully rising in the lamp. Eventually the liquid cools down, becoming heavy and drifting lazily to the bottom.
