A lovely, giant Australian praying mantis specimen.

Praying mantises are predatory insects that use their powerful raptorial front legs to snatch and hold other small animals. While the smaller species predominantly feed on insects and other invertebrates, the very large species will somtimes capture small vertebrates such as frogs and lizards.

Most mantids species are found in gardens. The name 'praying' originates from the pose they hold their front legs in - as if they were praying.

It is a REAL Mantid sp., farmed and sourced locally, and has not been enhanced or altered in any way.

Hang it on the wall as a lovely feature. Ideal for curious kids, collectors, or classroom units on bugs and insects.

More About The Specimen

This insect is REAL and natural! It has not been altered, enhanced or otherwise modified from its natural colour.

Many of the framed insects we carry are ranched/farmed specifically for the purpose, and do not include any species that are regarded as rare or endangered on CITES.

Your purchase actually aids environmental conservation by encouraging the indigenous caretakers to maintain host plant areas.

The frames are not made from real wood. Ethical concerns over deforestation in many third world countries has led to the use of timber substitute framing. All frames have glass fronts with a hook ready to hang. The use of recycled cardboard in the carry boxes also makes this product the complete eco-friendly gift.

Care Of Framed Insects

All frames are fumigated and are professionally prepared however Museum mites may occur. Mites can be detected by the presence of black dust underneath the bug. If this occurs immediately place frame inside a plastic bag and put into freezer for 72 hours. This will kill all mites. Keep framed specimens out of direct sunlight and humid areas.
