Chemistry is the study of matter - the way different materials are put together, and how they are made up of atoms and molecules. Matter is anything that has mass and takes up space, so this can be a liquid, a solid or a gas. Chemistry is also the study of how these materials act under different conditions.
Crystal Putty is all about polymers - a polymer is made up of very large chains of molecules, and this Crystal Putty contains polyvinyl alcohol (PVA).
PVA is a synthetic polymer with a high tensile strength and flexibility.
Crystal Putty also contains Boric Acid which creates crosslinks between the polymer chains. These crosslinks prevent the substance from flowing freely, creating a solid putty-like substance, with some strange characteristics.
Crystal Putty can be gently stretched out, played with and moulded but snaps if pulled apart with great force.
