Polacanthus was a quadrupedal (four footed) ornithischian, or ‘bird-hipped dinosaur’ that lived 125 to 130 million years ago in western Europe. Growing to 5 metres long (16 feet) its body was covered with armoured plates and spikes. Its name translates from Ancient Greek as “many” (polys) “spikes” or “prickles” (akantha).
