Framed Christmas Beetle - Anaplognathus aenus
Also known as "Christmas Beetle" this stunning specimen - Anoplagnathus Aenus - has been mounted lovingly in a black frame made from recycled products.
The glass-fronted frame beautifully showcases the detail of this striking metallic green winged scarab beetle which measures around 28-30mm.
The Anoplognathus genus has some 35 species all commonly known as Christmas beetles and come in a variety of colours from common brown to a deep gold. They have a two year life cycle, living and developing in the soil for a year, and emerging towards the end of Winter. Mating is their number one priority and eggs are usually laid close to a food source.
This stunning beetle has been set on a white matt board to highlight its amazing reflective colours. It is a REAL christmas beetle, farmed and sourced locally, and has not been enhanced or altered in any way.
Hang it on the wall as a lovely feature. Ideal for curious kids, collectors, or classroom units on bugs and insects.

More About The Specimen
This insect is REAL and natural! It has not been altered, enhanced or otherwise modified from its natural colour.
Many of the framed insects we carry are ranched/farmed specifically for the purpose, and do not include any species that are regarded as rare or endangered on CITES.
Your purchase actually aids environmental conservation by encouraging the indigenous caretakers to maintain host plant areas.
The frames are not made from real wood. Ethical concerns over deforestation in many third world countries has led to the use of timber substitute framing. All frames have glass fronts with a hook ready to hang. The use of recycled cardboard in the carry boxes also makes this product the complete eco-friendly gift.
Care Of Framed Insects
All frames are fumigated and are professionally prepared however Museum mites may occur. Mites can be detected by the presence of black dust underneath the bug. If this occurs immediately place frame inside a plastic bag and put into freezer for 72 hours. This will kill all mites. Keep framed specimens out of direct sunlight and humid areas.
