How does it work?
The optical tube assembly consists of a primary parabolic mirror and a flat secondary mirror in an open ended tube. Light enters the tube, reflects off the parabolic mirror onto the flat and then into an eyepiece. Focus simply with the eyepiece mounted on the side.
The telescope is mounted onto a base that can be moved in the Altitude (up and down) and Azimuth axis (left and right).
Isaac Newton was the first person to build a practical reflector in 1668. His design was placed into an alt-azimuth mount and made popular by amateur astronomer John Dobson in the 1960s hence the term Dobsonian.
