Invented by Swiss mathematician Blaise Müller in 1991, Quarto has a 4 x 4 game board and 16 pieces. Each piece has 4 characteristics: colour, height, shape and consistency (dark or light, tall or short, square or round, hollow or solid).
The object of this unique game is to place the fourth piece in a row where all four pieces have at least one characteristic in common. The row can be horizontal, vertical or diagonal.
Add a twist and play a version where you can’t choose! This time your opponent gets to choose the piece you place on the board each turn.
For added fun and tension play where you may also win by placing four matching pieces in a 2 x 2 square.
Unlike other traditional board games, Quarto has one set of common pieces to be selected by the players. Rather than a set for one player and a different set for the other.
A game for 2 players to be played in about 20 minutes.
