Using clean energy
sources such as the wind and sun are becoming more and more important to the
sustainable future of our planet. This mini wind turbine is a replica of an
actual wind powered generator (scale 1:250). It’s three blades rotate silently
at a soothing 18 revolutions per minute. With pollution and global warming being
a major worldwide problem it is increasingly vital that we explore, learn and
teach about renewable energy sources. This wind turbine is powered by the sun in
keeping with an environmentally friendly line of thought. The turbine stands
about 26cm high.

What
you get
1 solar powered
mini wind turbine (easy assembly, no tools required),
instructions. All in a plain, sturdy brown box.
How
does it work?
The solar panel
converts sunlight into electrical energy which flows from the panel in the base
of the plastic turbine to the top via hidden wiring in the column. The
electrical energy then flows into the small electric motor hidden by the motor
shell where it is converted to movement energy, causing the blades to turn. Now
you can feel the wind energy being generated from the moving blades. If it is an
overcast day and there is not enough sunlight to power the turbine a strong
spotlight can be used as an alternative.
Teach
- Wind energy as a clean energy
source to generate electricity. Wind turbines are already in use in
Australia to generate electricity.
- Using sustainable and renewable
energy sources as an alternative to burning fossil fuels to generate
electricity.
- Solar energy and solar
cells.
- Electricity and
circuits.
