It's
the original Hoberman toy and it's now a classic and a favorite of kids and
adults everywhere. This expanding and contracting ball cleverly combines
mathematics and geometry to create a surprising motion that fascinates everyone
who sees it. Simply grab a link at each side of the Sphere, pull outwards and it
grows from 23cm in diameter to a whopping 77cm! Give it a slight push and it
will contract back to its original size. Great for simple machine discussions.
It comes with a pulley, hardware and instructions to hang it as kinetic
mobile.

does it work?
Each ring is made up of lots of
small plastic links joined together in pairs which fold and unfold in a
scissor-like motion. This patented method of folding was discovered by Chuck
Hoberman, an inventor with degrees in art and mechanical engineering. This is
not only a fascinating toy, it is wonderful to engage children in learning about
pulley, levers, pivot points etc in science of toys or simple machines unit. It
also comes with a comprehensive educational booklet about the geometry of the
Sphere, and an activity sheet detailing some 21 fun tricks you can do with
